INVESTIGATIVE PROFILES
These are returned with a written clinical pathologist's comment (if history is provided) and FREE telephone
back-up. Heparin plasma may be used for all biochemical tests except bile acids. Do not use serum gel tubes
for endocrine assays.
Patients should not be fed for 8-12 hours before collecting blood for these profiles if possible.
Biochemistry only Separated serum or plasma is preferred.  
Old cat profile: urea, creatinine, ALP, ALT, Na,
K, glucose, FIV, T4,haematology.
This profile is designed for the investigation of
aged cats with internal disease and weight loss.
(0.5 - 1ml serum, EDTA, OXF)
Old cat biochemistry: urea, creatinine, ALP, ALT, Na,
K, glucose, FIV, T4.
(0.5 - 1ml serum OXF) 
FIP investigations: urea, creatinine, ALP, ALT, GGT, bilirubin, total protein, albumin, globulin, haematology,
electrophoresis, fluid analysis (cytology & fluid albumin: globulin ratio) or fine needle aspirate of liver/kidney,
FeCov titre. This profile is designed to provide the spectrum of tests which is necessary for the diagnosis or
exclusion of FIP for a fixed cost.
(1 - 1.5ml serum, EDTA, Fluid/FNA)
Basic profile: total protein, albumin, globulin, urea, creatinine, ALP, ALT, GGT, bilirubin, calcium, sodium, potassium (+ ratio), glucose, haematology. This is an appropriate data base of biochemistry and, haem-
atology for most diagnostic investigations in the cat.

Basic biochemistry: Separated serum or plasma is preferred.

This is a comprehensive data base of biochemistry and
haematology for investigating internal diseases in the cat.

This profile is designed for the investigation of
patients presenting with non-specific vomiting.

This profile is designed for the investigation of
patients presenting with polyuria and polydipsia.
(0.5 - 1ml serum, EDTA, OXF)
Polydipsia biochemistry:  (0.5 - 1ml serum OXF) 
Seizure profile: total protein, albumin, globulin, sodium, potassium, calcium, phosphate, urea, creatinine, glucose,
bile acids, ALP, ALT, haematology.
This profile is designed to investigate/rule out the
major metabolic/biochemical causes of seizures.

Seizure biochemistry:  (0.5 - 1ml serum OXF)  
Early renal profile: urine protein: creatinine ratio, urine NAG: creatinine ratio, creatinine, urea, phosphate, urine dipstick, sediment examination, SG, Na, K, fractional Na clearance, haematology.
This profile is designed to identify significant glomerular, and tubular damage when renal disease is suspected, before patients become azotaemic.

Intestinal malabsorption: total protein, albumin, globulin, B12, folate, haematology. (0.5 - 1ml serum, EDTA, faeces)
With faecal analysis : This profile is designed for the investigation of patients with chronic diarrhoea. 
Liver monitoring: total protein, albumin, globulin, urea, pre & post prandial bile acids, ALP, ALT, AST, GGT, GLDH, bilirubin, cholesterol, haematology.
This profile includes dynamic [pre & post prandial] bile acids. (Two 0.5ml serum samples are required, one
after a 12hr fast, the second 2hr post feeding).

 Summary of endocrine protocols for quick reference Each profile requires 1-2 ml serum, unless specified otherwise 
THYROID FUNCTION  
Standard / monitoring profile (total T4)
This is used to confirm hyperthyroidism and for therapeutic monitoring.
 
Premium profile (T4 & fT4d)
As for Standard profile but with the addition of
free T4, measured by dialysis, which is the active
form of T4 and most accurately reflects thyroidal status.
 
T3 suppression test (2 x TT4 & 1 x TT3)
Can be used in equivocal cases of suspected hyperthyroidism

ACTH stimulation test
(three cortisols before and after ACTH)
Used to help confirm hyperadrenocorticism.
